Thrilled I bought this version of Pretty Hate Machine! I've got https://www.discogs.com/Nine-Inch-Nails-Pretty-Hate-Machine/release/12655331 as well, and I'm really digging this remaster way more. The only hiccup was that the center hole on the 1 of 2 wasn't fully drilled, so I had to trim it a tad to fit on the platter. But hey, no big deal.
This is by far the most messed up album I have. Really poor quality pressing all around. Not worth your time.
This re-release is fantastic, with top-notch visuals, audio, and playability. It's got that classic EBM vibe from the era, packing a lively, dance-inducing beat that's a far cry from Trent's subsequent output.
Despite all the negative feedback I'd seen about various versions of this album, I took a chance and purchased a copy, and I'm glad I did because it sounds fantastic.
This had the potential to be so much better. The mix and mastering are top-notch, with excellent dynamics and separation. The pressing is just your average 'good enough' United quality. It's covered in fingerprints, noisy, and distracting. The center hole has that volcano effect, and the surface is all orange peel. These issues are totally avoidable if they just cared a little, but United clearly doesn't. I'm really hoping Universal and the other music companies wake up and drop United/GZ. Honestly, can't recommend this one. Setup: AT-LP1240, ATVM95, ML, Bellari VP549, Yamaha A-S501, Wharfdale Diamond 240, Definitive Audio ProSub800
