Since the fragile, this is my most loved NIN album 10 words 10 words
I must admit, I was a bit concerned after going through some of these reviews. But my copy is flawless, apart from a minor issue that doesn't affect the sound: the label on Disc 1's B-side appears to have been stuck on when it was wet. It's all bubbly and looks like a book cover that's been exposed to water. The vinyl itself and the pressing are pretty much perfect. The sound is crystal clear with a beautiful wide soundstage. I played it straight through to check if the mastering was as good as people said… and it truly is!
Let me start by saying, this album is absolutely phenomenal - no doubt about it. However, I had to return my first vinyl copy due to a significant amount of static distortion on disc 1 and some on disc 2. The shop assistant joked that it was the music (sly guy) but my second copy had the exact same problems at the exact same points in the tracks. 'All Time Low' is particularly bad during the instrumental outro. Being a true NiN fan, I also had the CD version and knew it was a pressing problem. I didn't feel like returning the second copy, so now I'm stuck with an unplayable version of an amazing album, which is really disappointing. I'm not writing this to complain or whine, but I haven't seen anyone else mention this issue, so maybe this will help identify the problem. On a positive note, when the static spikes aren't there, the recording's clarity is outstanding, which is why this LP is getting 5 star reviews. TS
Snagged this second-hand for a fair price and it sounds amazing. The soundstage and bass are impressive, punchy, and dynamic - though vocals might be a bit too soft, it's not a big deal. The packaging is nice, but I'm puzzled why the discs are in flimsy paper sleeves - couldn't we at least get some better sleeves for a set like this? My discs were perfectly clean and spotless though, so I either got lucky or the previous owner took good care of them.
This album is what sparked my vinyl journey! As always, Trent's cover art and packaging are top-notch, and the record's sound quality is fantastic. It's a shame this NIN album is so overlooked; "Various Methods of Escape" is an absolute gem.
