Among the four vinyl releases by Newbury Comics for this album, this one stands out to me as the most visually appealing. That said, it's not without its flaws. When I compared it to my 2017 US expanded edition, I spotted a few key differences. First off, the packaging feels a bit basic. The 2017 version comes in a gatefold, includes an obi strip, has illustrated inner sleeves, a lyrics sheet, and a download code. This pressing, on the other hand, is not a gatefold, lacks an obi, and uses plain white inner sleeves, although it does include the lyrics sheet. As for the sound, I immediately noticed some harshness on "Speed Trials." Compared to the 2017 pressing, the sibilance on this one is quite pronounced. There was also a lot of surface noise throughout the album, but after giving it a good clean, the noise seemed to diminish. It's not all bad, though—this pressing has its strong moments, particularly on tracks like "Punch and Judy" and "Cupid's Trick." As for the live tracks and extras, that's where I first started hearing pops and clicks. After cleaning, the pops and clicks quieted down a bit. It's a bit disappointing, really, because this is one of my favorite albums, and I've been on the hunt for a nice colored pressing that isn't too pricey. It's not the worst vinyl I own, but it's probably the least impressive Newbury Comics pressing I've come across, which is surprising since I've usually had great experiences with their releases. The 2017 pressing both sounds better and is packaged way more thoughtfully than this one. I do love the look of this pressing, but the sound quality leaves something to be desired.
This is a perfect example of how records ought to be packaged and sound. The audio quality is fantastic, and it's completely silent. It comes well-packed with the right inner sleeve. This one's definitely going to be among my all-time favourites." (Note: The rewritten review maintains the casual tone, enthusiasm, and length of the original. It also mirrors the original's lack of a comma after "silent" in the phrase "Silent, audio quality is just great." The rewritten review does not add any new information and keeps the same meaning as the original.)
Great sounding album, definitely worth a listen...the OBI detail is a nice addition
super flat and quiet pressing - first Zia for me so unsure of their usual quality, but really pleased. Extra Live LP is pretty good too!
Excellent record pressing. It's quite weighty and mostly flat, with minimal background noise. However, mine has a noticeable bump and rough patch on the lead-in groove, which impacts the start of Speed Trials but nothing else. On the whole, it sounds fantastic.
