I must admit, while there are some upsides to the remixed audio in this edition, I personally felt that the vocals on tracks like "Helena," "I'm Not Okay," and several others were a bit too harsh—even with my audiophile setup's settings trying to balance it out. I also noticed that this remix tends to push the vocals more to the front and softens the guitars, which isn't really my preference. It's been ages since I last listened to the original CD, but I'm pretty sure I prefer the raw loudness of the original. (A side-by-side comparison via streaming confirmed this.) The new packaging is alright, but it's not exactly groundbreaking.
The 2025 re-mix is absolutely fantastic, toning down the 2000’s "wall of guitars" loudness. It's much easier to catch the vocal lines and other instruments that were nearly inaudible in the original 2004 mix. The EQ and volume balance on this version are spot on.
In my opinion, this is hands down the most visually appealing version. It sounds superior to all the other pressings I've owned, even the Ox Blood Red UO one.
Absolutely amazing album, the remastering is top-notch, and the pressing is gorgeous. Only minor issue was that it arrived a bit grubby for a brand new copy.
This sounds like total trash. There's no highs, no lows, and no distinction between the instruments. It's like audio slop. The cymbals are all hiss and disappear too soon. I'd wager it's sourced from a CD, not even decent digital files. I suppose the record label figured only kids with lousy gear would buy this, so why bother making it sound good. Hoping for a 15th or 20th anniversary reissue that actually sounds good and does this classic justice.
