This record is pleasantly quiet, has no skips, and sounds great. It's definitely value for money.
This is way, way better than KPG@CA's solo project on 33 for OJC from the original master tapes that came out in 2023.
At first, this one took some time to win me over musically, but I reckon the sound quality is pretty decent. It's not as outstanding as some other recent jazz re-releases, but it's still a good buy. The vinyl is flat & free from any flaws. There's quite a bit of tape hiss during Monk's solo on "Off Minor." Supposedly stereo? It sounds more mono to me...
Fortunately, I didn't spend a lot on this, the tunes are amazing but the record itself is terrible. It's super crackly and makes a ton of noise. I even gave it a good clean, but it didn't make a difference.
In my view, this release outshines both the 1982 OJC and Craft OJC editions. The Craft OJC version is a tad too dark for my liking. The AP sounds more robust compared to the 1982 OJC. Just sharing my two cents here. By the way, is this really mono? The front cover clearly states "stereo," and it definitely sounds like stereo on my system.
