These pressings sound amazing! I'm still partial to the 2022 mono version, but these older stereo ones are seriously impressive.
This album is absolutely one of my all-time top picks. For the majority of my life, I only had the stereo version and was unaware of how distinct the two recordings truly are. The mono version is so much richer in sound. Every element is clear and easily discernible. Syd's vocals and guitar are flawless. I'm thrilled they released this on vinyl. It's been a delight owning the CD, but it lacks the depth and fullness that a record played on a quality turntable through an old mono receiver provides. A true masterpiece.
The sound stage and quality on this pressing is phenomenal. Really enjoyed it. I also picked up the stereo version. Both are amazing.
To my ears, it's fantastic. It's nice and hushed when it needs to be, and the range is top-notch. No weird noises or anything like that.
Tracking down the original '80s Pink Floyd CDs is worth the effort, as they deliver a surprisingly impressive sound. You'll notice a significant boost in bass on these CDs, particularly when compared to the newer vinyl and CD re-releases, with this album and "Obscured By Clouds" being prime examples. It makes you wonder if the bass reduction on the newer versions is done on purpose... As expected, it's a fantastic album. It's a fascinating snapshot of the '60s, featuring some genuinely outstanding tracks like "Astronomy Domine" and "The Scarecrow.
