Vinyl so quiet, not a peep of noise. Audio is crisp and spotless. This marks the second Atlantic 75th release from the 'clear vinyl' collection I've gotten, and both have been flawless. It was a steal for the price. Over the moon to have this in stunning mono, pressed to perfection!
I couldn't be more at odds with the previous sentiment. The 24/192 version is way too bright; the SACD's lack of this harshness might have come across as "dull" to the last reviewer. I'd bet the SACD mastering is closer to the original tape; either way, it's far more enjoyable to listen to. The same tracks in the Birth of Soul box set come from a better source: the original single masters, not the LP master, which is at least one generation down from the tape. You can hear the difference for yourself if you compare them. But I still prefer the mastering here, along with the superior resolution of SACD.
Incredible sounding record! The bass is so rich and deep, and the vocals are really upfront - it's one of the few mono records I have that truly sounds 3D...
Incredible sound!! I'm using the AT33MONO. So much bass and BG really knows his stuff when it comes to mastering
Plus: The sound is absolutely flawless, it's like having a front-row seat to Ray's studio session. You can even hear the faintest brush strokes of the drummer with crystal clarity. Minus: It required quite a bit of cleaning when I first got it. There's still a couple of skips in A1, but it's way better than when I initially played it, so I'm not sure if it's due to defects or just some really stubborn dust.
