The mastering on this record is absolutely fantastic - it's exactly what you'd expect from a genuine late 50s RnB album. Sure, you can hear the recording's limitations (like Ray sounding like he's a few blocks away from the band on 'Jumpinβ In The Morninβ), but that's just part of the charm. Tracks like 'Rockhouse' and the stunning title track sound incredible. However, the QRP disc is a real letdown. It's covered in non-fill and has tons of scuffs. I've had to reach out to the vendor for a replacement or refund because of it. On top of that, the spindles on both discs were too tight, and the edges were rough and sharp. Honestly, Analogue Productions usually goes above and beyond with their product quality, so releasing a record in this condition just isn't acceptable. There are also RTI pressings available, and maybe I just got unlucky, but I had to speak up about what I experienced.
Don't listen to this with headphones! The stereo is really poorly done, so you have the piano on one side and the drums on the other, but nothing in the center. It's okay for casual listening, but with headphones: ouch!
Translated automatically,Incredible! My version looks really crisp and pristine. It's so satisfying to stumble upon quality copies like this nowadays (I picked mine up at a second-hand store). The tracks on this album seem to span different time periods, likely to ride the wave of the hit title track. It's a solid early '60s effort from Ray and his band.
I'm a big fan of the classic folder and the gorgeous see-through red vinyl. Sadly, the sound quality is truly terrible. It's all muffled and there's annoying clicks. My copy was scratched up too. The instrumental separation is pretty good, though.
I'm not certain if it's due to the original recording, but the volume levels on this album are quite low. I always have to turn down the volume before playing the next album.
