The discs arrived quite dusty and covered in paper residue straight from the factory, but it was no big deal. A swift Spin Clean session sorted it all out, and now they play wonderfully. No surface noise to speak of. The mix is stunning. Vocals are much clearer and more prominent. There are loads of subtle changes, some more noticeable...overall, I'm really taken with it. Though my UK first press will always be my main listening copy, I'm sure. The LP with the unreleased versions is fantastic. I love how it's put together as an “alternate” take on the album...each track is from a take that's different enough to be intriguing yet still close enough to sound “right”. As a die-hard Lennon fan, and especially of this album, I'd love to have all the bonus content from the CDs on vinyl...but that would be around 20 LPs, so this was well done. Great inserts and sleeves. Love the clearer photo on the cover - it matches the clearer mix. My only real issue is the retail price of $62. For just a 2LP, that's quite steep. Of course, I had to have it and I'm happy with it, but still.
Every track on this album is flawless, apart from Remember and Well Well. The quality control is utterly appalling. It appears this VERY problem has been going on for half a decade.
I'm puzzled about what others are experiencing with their pressings...mine is performing brilliantly. The highs are incredibly sharp, the dynamic range is clear and expansive, no skips, and it sounds fantastic!
I'm pleased with my purchase. When I first played it, there were numerous crackling sounds, but they disappeared after a few spins, so perhaps it was due to some leftover residue. I enjoyed the mix as well, but as someone mentioned earlier, you might not... possibly if your setup lacks adjustable EQ.
