Peachtree Road showcases Elton & Bernie's finest work. I've owned this CD since its release and even caught Elton's tour supporting this album. The LP version offers a distinct sonic upgrade, like experiencing it in stereo heaven. Acoustic guitars shine with their separation, Elton's vocals sound more authentic, and the bass is perfectly balanced (the CD seems to have a bit more bass). The gatefold sleeve, photos, and Bernie's liner notes are all fantastic. My only gripe: Just three non-CD tracks. They're great songs, but I'd have loved some live cuts (maybe the whole album?) but I'm just being greedy, as I often am with Elton. Peachtree Road is a must-have for any Elton John fan, and this LP tops the list for its superb sound and packaging.
This version sounds significantly better than the initial pressing, which, if you don't own it, will now cost you around $500. It's still not fantastic, but then again, neither is the CD or SACD. It's more of an issue with the mix than the mastering or pressing. Disappointing, given that I genuinely adore this album.
Incredible album! It's astonishing that Elton can still create music of this caliber so far into his career, while many of his peers have turned into mere 'legacy' acts.
This is, in my view, a marvelous pressing! The dynamics on this release are truly impressiveโrich bass, crisp and prominent vocals, and Elton's piano shines. The vinyl is perfectly flat and silent, but yet again, the records arrived in printed paper inner sleeves. For an album priced at over $40, it would be wonderful if labels could include poly sleeves. (Neil Young's new Toast release, for instance, comes with glossy paper inner sleeves, but the records are also placed in their own poly sleeves alongside the printed innersโthis is ideal!) All in all, I'd strongly recommend this release if you're an admirer of this era of Elton's work and can handle the steep price.
The bass is way overdone in this reissue and it's got this weird echo thing going on. The mids are pushed way back. Same issues with the One reissue.
