Truth be told, it dropped on June 4, not May 4. Metallica steps up their game, crafting richer, more intricate tracks, and some so-called supporters can't handle it. (Later on: Metallica revisits their roots, fans still complain. Metallica's in a no-win situation, probably 'cause they stand against music piracy.) For true fans who've been with Metallica since the start, Load is a masterpiece. Plus, "King Nothing," a savage diss of a former bandmate with a fragile ego.
In my opinion, if Metallica hadn't tried to fill up a CD with stuff and just went back to what they did with Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning, this could've been a fantastic album. But, it's all over the place. It's blues, it's rock, it's metal, it's country, it's alternative, it's southern rock, it's just everywhere. This album has some solid tracks, and I'll even enjoy the whole thing, but some songs should've been left out. They could've done a main release and then another disc with the filler songs or B-Sides, that way the whole album score wouldn't take a hit.
This pressing is absolutely fantastic - it's packed with so much richness, warmth, and power. And now that we've all matured and become more open-minded since the '90s, it's high time we acknowledged that this is a bloody brilliant album! I'm a huge fan - it's aged like a fine wine.
I can't say more than what's been said below. It truly outshines every other version. If you're a fan of this album, don't settle for those Blackened remaster pressings. Grab this one instead.
This 2014 version of Blackened is a fantastic pressing, it's not quite as good as Reload but it's way better than Master Of Puppets (talking about the 2014 pressing, mind you, the music on MOP is way superior to these two combined).
