Wow, this is absolutely fantastic. It really sizzles on the turntable. There's a bit of fuzz on the louder parts, which is to be expected, but it actually gives it that classic 60s vibe. Just like with other top-notch pressings, the way the instruments are separated and their unique qualities come through is something you just can't get with any other format. It's just gorgeous, gorgeous stuff.
VMP has shown they can create top-notch products, and this is among their best. It's a gorgeous record - the packaging, the cover, the art, and the pressing are all flawless. Nothing more to add.
An iconic album from one of the most soul-stirring artists to ever approach a mic. This record is flawless, boasting heavenly horn arrangements, a mighty rhythm section, and Aretha's electrifying voice. Her renditions of Sam Cooke's "Good Times" and "A Change Is Gonna Come" are unmatched, standing tall alongside his originals. This is an authentic 1967 stereo pressing, and it sounds fantastic, with a wide range, superb stereo imaging, and a crisp, open soundfield. My copy has seen many plays over the years, it's got some wear on the grooves and minor surface noise, but it plays without any skips.
This particular pressing I've got sounds pretty decent. It ain't top-tier quality, but it's even, well-balanced, and not too noisy.
Here comes the Queen of Soul! Jerry Wexler from Atlantic has set Aretha free from Columbia's hold, and boy, does she shine. This is one of the most incredible R&B albums ever made, a true masterpiece.
