this one kinda got me goin'. some tracks had awesome arrangements, others not so much. it's got that poppy, smooth singin' feel to it.
I'm really loving this project. While I'll forever have a soft spot for the originals, this album is a blast. They nailed the mixing, in my humble opinion. The sound quality is top-notch. My copy is pristine, with a lovely pink hue and minimal noise.
I'm a big fan of this album, and here's why: Al Green. You ought to consider getting the 4 original albums these songs are from, as each one is far superior to this compilation. The producers have taken the original tracks, boosted the bass, pushed the organ and vocals to the background, and added string arrangements that attempt to replace the impact of the organ and vocals. Surprisingly, it works quite well, thanks to Al Green's incredible voice. If you're like me and have listened to these songs countless times over the years, this is a refreshing new take. If you're new to Al Green, start with the original albums.
Clearly, I'm more fond of the originals, but this orchestral version of Al Green's classics is a harmless take, with gentle, delicate strings added to the original tracks. The sound quality is excellent, very hushed, on some nice light pink vinyl. I'm not entirely sure how often I'll give it a spin, though.
This album is a solid pick for vinyl newbies who aren't too fussed about top-notch audio quality. The issue here is that they packed way too many tracks onto each side, which messes with the bass and makes the sound all muddled. That's probably why folks are saying the vocals are getting lost in the music. If they wanted to keep this many songs, they should've made it a double LP. I'll probably pass this on as a gift at some point, but I doubt I'll ever give it another spin.
