Amazing new release. It sounds incredible. The sound is vast, deep, and has a gorgeous balance. 10+ without a doubt.
This is a classic case of Fat Possum's "alright, not outstanding" reissues. They're putting in the effort, no doubt. :) My (pre-owned) copy is nice and flat, a tad off-center but nothing that messes with playback. There's a hint of surface noise that only pops up during super quiet parts and between tracks. The soundstage is pretty good - instruments and vocals are distinct and quite crisp - but there's a touch of murkiness that keeps it in the middle of the pack. Tweak your EQ as needed. I'd pick this over a banged-up original, but it's all about personal preference.
Al Green's debut masterpiece. "Tired Of Being Alone" is absolutely phenomenal. "Light My Fire" might be the only not-so-great track. The formula was slightly adjusted, but GETS NEXT TO YOU kicks off a series of legendary 70's soul albums from Green, Willie Mitchell, and Hi Records. This is a 1971 Bestway pressing, and it sounds fantastic. The rhythm section packs a punch, with a lively and natural soundstage. My copy plays smoothly with some light surface noise and a few minor pops during "Are You Lonely For Me Baby".
As anticipated, the sound quality from this early UK original pressing is superb.
I'm right there with aledif71, no problems at all with the spacing on this pressing. It's an amazing, can't-stop-listening kind of record that truly deserves all the praise. Highly, highly recommend it!
