Fantastic version. A necessity for any collection. Superbly crafted, flawless pressings, massive poster and stunning artwork. The record sleeves even have printed interiors!
Since "Surrender," they've never sounded this good. Barring the somewhat lackluster, radio-ready Beck team-up, it's an absolute treasure trove of tracks, blending classic Chem Brothers magic with a touch of newfound sophistication (check out that live bass on "The Weight," it's a killer). Strong candidate for album of the year. It'll leave you buzzing with that incredible feeling.
Picked this up from HMV as part of their Album of The Year drop.. Quality, clean pressings. I've got the 3LP version too, and I was hoping this one would be handy for when I don't feel like flipping all three records constantly. Obviously, it's not as dynamic on my Rega P6 / AT VM540ML setup, but that doesn't stop it from sounding fantastic. The album wasn't mastered all that well in my opinion, though. It's like someone left an EQ on and the bass is way too heavy. Sadly, this is more noticeable on vinyl than it is digitally. Tracks like "Skipping Like a Stone" are way overdone and clip where they shouldn't. Both versions have more surface noise than they should, so it's probably just the pressings.
Couldn't have said it better myself! Fantastic release, grab it without hesitation!
After a decade of albums and nearly three decades in the music industry, these guys are still going strong like a car's hood. What an incredible album and an outstanding pressing (vinyl mastering by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios room 30). The records are perfectly flat, whisper-quiet, and spotless. The soundstage is vast (and I truly mean VAST); this is exactly how this album should be experienced. Just a heads-up: the inner sleeves aren't lined with poly, so slide these gems into a couple of protective sleeves to keep them in mint condition.
