I'm not sure what to say about this one. It's a pretty low-cost pressing with surprisingly good sound quality. When I received my copy, I immediately thought, "this is gonna sound terrible," just by the feel of the cheap folder/sleeve, but the record actually holds up pretty well, sounds great, and for the price, it's definitely worth it.
I got around to this album a bit later, as I found Low in High School somewhat underwhelming. As a collection of covers, this one really shines, which is quite an accomplishment for any artist. I must say, I never pegged Moz as a Carly Simon enthusiast! The pressing is impeccable, no hissing, clear, dynamic, detailed, a delight to listen to.
This album truly amazed me with its authentic, natural sound. The music envelops my entire room, and I'm particularly fond of the subtle overtones in the string parts. There's no over-compression here - the sound has room to resonate. The expansive soundstage and detailed instrumentation evoke older recording methods, giving it a warm, nostalgic charm. I've caught myself wanting to play this for friends multiple times, just so they can enjoy these delightful sonic qualities.
I'm absolutely enjoying this brilliant new Morrissey album, available on lovely colored vinyl and CD. I'm particularly fond of his take on Gary Puckett & The Union Gap's 60s chart-topper, "Lady Willpower", and his incredible rendition of The Fifth Dimension's 60s smash hit, "Wedding Bell Blues". Currently sitting at #8 on today's iTunes USA Top 100 Album chart. I'm confident it'll be #1 on the UK album charts next week too!
