This album is a fantastic piece of work by one of America's most underappreciated songwriters. I'd have given anything to be there when they recorded this masterpiece. James Taylor's presence is all over this record too!
Carole King's first album showcases a grittier sound compared to her later works, with tracks like "Spaceship Races" and "Raspberry Jam" showcasing her rock side. Her take on "Goin' Back" is fantastic, though it might not overshadow the Dusty Springfield or Byrds versions. The album wraps up with her cover of "Up On The Roof," which is the only part of WRITER that hints at what TAPESTRY would become. It's a testament to the power of a great producer, as TAPESTRY would later demonstrate under Lou Adler's guidance. This copy is decent, though the mid-range could be clearer. My copy is in great condition, playing smoothly with no detectable surface noise.
Carole King's first four albums are just plain fantastic, you can't go wrong with them!

This particular pressing is decent, though the mid-range has a slightly metallic quality. My copy is in great condition, playing smoothly with no detectable surface noise.
