I had to swap out my initial copy as well. It was bent and had a scratch. The replacement also has some minor scratches, but they're not very noticeable. The track numbers on the B-Side aren't in order.
I've got this release and also the McCoy Tyner - Time For Tyner DMM from '86. Don't get me wrong, the older one's got a great sound, but the Tone Poet version? It's got way more detail and it's just plain better. The dynamics are about the same, though. A few people mentioned that weird sound stage where the piano and vibraphone seem to be stacked on top of each other, and the left channel's pretty quiet. Yeah, that's still a thing with the Tone Poet disc, but you can actually tell the instruments apart when they're playing together, which was a real struggle with the earlier versions. Honestly, I don't think this recording was RVG's best work. But the mastering quality and the perfect pressing? They're right up there with every other Tone Poet release I've had the pleasure of listening to.
I'm afraid this one doesn't meet the usual Tone Poet series quality, it's dull and uninspiring, lacks punch, if this is what's coming, I'll have to skip it.
This is a fantastic album; however, I'm having trouble identifying the specific pressing. It's quite subdued and lacks depth - the audio is a tad too gentle & the instruments seem to blend into one another. I wouldn't be shocked if some people decide to skip this one. Regardless, the music itself is incredibly good 😊 …
I own a version of this pressing. Side one has a white 'B' logo, and side two has a black 'B' logo. The blue labels are in different hues.
