premo's absolute worst shit ever.but you still gotta love every thing else!
Bought it brand new in its packaging; there's some hiss and a couple of crackles that stand out during changes and quieter parts. The low end is alright but you might want to boost it a tad. I can't compare it to other versions of this album, but the sound quality isn't outstanding. Despite all that, the music is incredible. I'm using an AT-LP-120 with a red ortofan stylus…
premo's absolute worst stuff ever.but you still gotta love all the other things!
While it might not be the absolute pinnacle of Gang Starr's impressive catalog, their final album (as of this writing) still outshines most hip-hop releases from its era. The Owners is undoubtedly a top 5 album of 2003. Guru and Premier's dynamic remained unbeatable, dare I say name a better duo... I'll be here waiting. My standout tracks include “Put Up Or Shut Up”, “Rite Where U Stand”, “Who Got Gunz”, “PLAYTAWIN”, “Zonin’” and “Skills”. The brief but stellar “Werdz From The Ghetto Child” featuring Smiley on vocals is also worth a shoutout.
While it might not be the absolute pinnacle of Gang Starr's impressive catalog, their final album (as of this writing) still outshines the majority of hip-hop releases from the same era. Without a doubt, "The Owners" is a top-tier album from 2003. Guru and Premier's dynamic duo status remains unchallenged, so go ahead and try to name a better pair—I'm all ears... My personal favorites include "Put Up Or Shut Up", "Rite Where U Stand", "Who Got Gunz", "PLAYTAWIN", "Zonin’", and don't sleep on "Skills". Also, a quick shoutout to the brief but fire "Werdz From The Ghetto Child" featuring Smiley on the vocals.
