DJ Shadow has made a name for himself with his sample-based tracks, and "entroducing" has become a timeless classic. Josh has since evolved his sound towards more electronic music using modular synths, which hasn't been a hit with all of his original fans—it's a similar situation with Amon Tobin. For me, "the mountain will fall" is an absolute masterpiece and the Shadow album I've listened to the most; it just keeps getting better, with so much to uncover! I've seen Josh live twice, once during the mountain tour which was incredible and blew my mind. He's coming back to Berlin this year, and I can't wait!
This album is straight-up amazing. It bounces between different themes, but hey, that's what music's all about these days, right? The pressing quality is top-notch, seriously impressive. I've been rocking my Shure M44G's on my HipHop vinyls, trying to get as close as possible to the setup artists use for sampling (well, that's just my take). And man, I'm just loving it. The only downside to this release is the inner sleeves - they're a tad too snug for the thick paper, and if you're not careful, they'll start tearing at the folds real quick. But the tracks? Oh, I'm already waiting for the next one to drop so I can grab that too. The journey continues!
