I was genuinely impressed by this Jazz Images release. Given the age of the recordings, the sound quality is remarkably good, with the digital to vinyl transfer being noise-free and dynamic. This might be due to these being among the final recordings by Reinhardt, just before his passing in '53. Initially recorded for Blue Star, but overseen by Norman Granz, who released it in the US on his Clef label as "The Great Artistry Of Django Reinhardt" on 10" vinyl. As usual with Jazz Images re-releases, the photography is fantastic.
Fanstastic! Goodjob! Anyone who adores Django Reinhardt ought to get it!
Amazing record pressing, and the cover is just as amazing to look at and to hold! Still available for order from Sam Records as of 16Nov2024.
Sam Records strikes gold again! The pressing, packaging, and print job are all top-notch, and the sound quality is impeccable. Django reigns supreme. Thanks a million.
Fred never fails to impress. The tunes he re-releases are simply heavenly. This one's no different. The quality is spot on. Django’s guitar strums take center stage thanks to a stunning mono recording. Being in Paris in '53 and catching this live might just be the closest you can get to the real thing.
