Is lyrics part of this version? Any help would be great, thanks!
This album is absolutely one of my all-time favorites! I've got more copies of it than any other in my collection, that's how much I adore it. The copy I've got of this particular version is the one my Dad picked up at Strawberries in Boston way back in 1979. He had to go through a couple before he found a good one, as the first two were all warped, but he kept the free 7" from those two. I don't spin this copy anymore, as I've got a mint Japanese press with the UK track listing and a super clean copy with the US track listing, but it's been with our family since '79, so I'll never part with it for sentimental reasons.
At long last, I've managed to get my hands on a pristine A2/B2, complete with the red sticker and the EP, and let me tell you, it's a BEAST! The audio is PHENOMENAL - not a hint of distortion and vocals that are so powerful and lifelike, it's unbelievable. The drums are PACKING a punch, the guitars WAIL, and it's an absolutely mind-blowing experience. The A3/B5 I own is no lightweight, it also boasts demo disc quality, but the A2/B2 is in a league of its own. Trust me, you'll need to save up a King's ransom to afford one - if you can even find one - they're quite rare.
Here's the rewritten review that meets your requirements: "This is the Promo 7" Single ("Gates Of The West", "Groovy Times") Epic AE7 1178 from 1979, which is part of the LP "The Clash" (JE 36060). Check out the US LPs here https://www.discogs.com/de/The-Clash-The-Clash/release/1399546 and here https://www.discogs.com/de/The-Clash-The-Clash/release/12921742. The Canadian LPs from 1979 are listed here https://www.discogs.com/de/The-Clash-The-Clash/release/8456843 and here https://www.discogs.com/de/The-Clash-The-Clash/release/2441946. And there's also a Japanese version with a different title ("Pearl Harbour", 1979) available here https://www.discogs.com/de/The-Clash-Pearl-Harbour-79/release/1653446.
I, like a few of you, don't have another copy to compare this with, but I was happily surprised by how fantastic this sounds.
