I'd give this record a perfect score, especially when it comes to mastering. The mastering here is absolutely outstanding. I used to own a Canadian original pressing, and even that one had side 1 sounding a tad muddy and mid-range heavy compared to side 2. That's due to the different studios used for each side, as mentioned in the credits. But even with that, it's still an incredibly well-sounding record with fantastic dynamics. The soundstage is wide and deep, and for such an affordable AAA pressing ($25 USD from a record store), I couldn't have asked for more. The disc was perfectly flat and noiseless, just like most of my Tone Poet records. It's a solid 100/100 from me! And let me tell you, this is one of those hidden psych jazz gems you shouldn't miss.
Jack strikes again! I'm always thrilled to discover these intense, rockin' fusion albums. This one's got a dark and heavy vibe. The opening track gives me PiL's Metal Box vibes with its looping bass line and those subtle electronic bits.
Don't let the packaging trick you, this isn't an audiophile's dream. The Kevin Gray remaster just a tad improves the muddled audio of the A side. The B side, recorded in a separate session, is far superior. The Stoughton cover is well-made and my copy plays as well as any colored vinyl. It's the (truly amazing) music that makes it worth buying, otherwise it might be a bit pricey.
The book I got was all bent and creased, plus it made a loud thud noise when I played it for the first few minutes on each side. Sent it back.
Wow, this is top-tier AAA quality! The sound is phenomenal...I'm baffled why so many folks have criticized this album, they must've only listened to the CD version. This is psych jazz rock vinyl, masterfully handled by Kevin Gray and pressed at RTI. Absolutely stunning! A true Masterpiece.
