The 12" take of "Muscles" has a slightly slower tempo compared to the album and single releases, but it's worth noting that it matches the pace and pitch of the original US 12" single. After some consideration, I believe this 12" version probably represents the original recording's intended speed and pitch, with the album and single versions possibly being sped up a touch. You can really hear it when you pay attention – her vocals just sound more authentic on this version. Regardless, it's an incredible track and one of her absolute finest!
Kudos to Michael 'muscles' Jackson. That song is so awfully produced. (Only tune cut in a différent place). Flawlessly blended. Valuable enough on its own to snag that record.
Despite featuring cover art by Andy Warhol and a track penned and produced by Michael Jackson, this album was a letdown. Post-Motown, Diana's career took a sharp decline. She no longer had the full support of the Motown team, wasn't the label's top priority, and her choices in songs were quite lacking. Her vocals often come across as weak and thin, strained, and buried under heavy production. It's far from her finest work.
Diana Ross serves up a delightful blend of rock and R&B tunes, all led by her powerful female vocals. When you spin this album from beginning to end on each side, it's like taking an incredible musical ride. There's a great balance here, with some tracks that are super chill and others, like "Fool For Your Love," that really bring the energy and rock your world!
Warhol's cover, but Diana seems out of place on this record. Who is she in this context? She's got talent, no doubt, but this album ain't her finest work, or perhaps the producer wasn't quite on the ball.
