This album is fantastic! While it may not reach the heights of Holy Diver, which is unsurpassed, it's still an incredible listen with some amazing tracks. The quality of the pressing is top-notch, and I've noticed that many Warner pressings from this era share this trait.
Currently enjoying this album. Absolutely brilliant. Vivian C is an incredible guitarist with a distinctive sound. DIO --well-- phenomenal, and the rest of the band is packed with top-tier musicians. The tracks are superb, and the length of the sides makes you want to hit play again. Top-notch, in my view.
Dio's initial three solo albums are all absolute classics. This particular version is recorded so loud that it's a tad distorted. When I converted it to digital, I had to lower the audacity recording level to 60% to minimize clipping. I also have a CD version from the mid-90s, which sounds so soft and dull that I need to use EQ to make it enjoyable. So, for me, it's like going from one extreme to the other. Regardless, the songs are phenomenal. Hearing it takes me back to when it first released; I was a rebellious 15-year-old who adored Dio's music, and I still do. Every single bit of it. This album has a special place in my heart.
Sacred Heart is often overlooked, but it's time to give it the recognition it deserves. Sure, it might not quite reach the heights of the two albums preceding it, but let's be real, few records do. It's a bit more polished, melodic, and keyboard-focused than its predecessors, but that doesn't make it any less of a solid Dio album. This was Vivian Campbellβs final hurrah with Ronnie and the band, and he delivers one of the most impressive guitar performances of his career. It's a fantastic, underappreciated album that's worth revisiting. Don't miss out, give it a spin!
Awesome album, though the mastering doesn't quite match up to Holy Diver or Last in Line.
