The 2017 re-release doesn't sound great to me. It feels like the remasters went too far.
I hesitated to order this release because of all the talk about disc 1 being warped. But since I haven't heard about any other reissues, I decided to go ahead and buy it, figuring I could always swap it out if the warping was too bad. Much to my delight, both records I received were as flat as a pancake. The sound is crisp, the bass is solid, the separation is great, and the soundstage is impressive. I can't say enough good things about this release. Maybe I just got lucky, but this is one fantastic-sounding record.
Initially, I rated this a 3 star, but now I've upgraded it to 5. The warping issue has been resolved. It just goes to show that proper storage can fix warped records over time. The sound quality is absolutely amazing!
The audio quality is incredible. The drums hit hard and the overall mix is just superb.
This is a fantastic sounding record. Among all the PJ releases, it's one of my top favorites, just behind Vs. 45RPM, Yield 45RPM, and Gigaton. I haven't had the chance to listen to Backspacer and Avocado on vinyl yet, so I can't say how they compare. Riot Act is a challenging album for both casual listeners and die-hard PJ fans. It's crucial to keep in mind the backdrop of these songs, which were created right after the Roskilde Festival incident on June 30, 2000. Riot Act came out in 2002. Take those facts into account and Riot Act becomes a truly enjoyable album.
