Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.
My copy's got a bit of surface noise, but apart from that, the sound's pretty decent! Not amazing, but certainly good enough. Probably the best vinyl version of this album I'll get to listen to, unless Analogue Productions ever gives Bags' catalogue a go (fingers crossed).
With two distinct groups, both boasting Horace Silver on keys, this album really shines. The first trio of tracks, showcasing Cannonball Adderley, Art Blakey, and Percy Heath, all arranged by Quincy Jones, is absolutely killer. But don't sleep on the smaller sextet that takes over the rest of the record, with Oscar Pettiford and Lucky Thompson bringing the heat. The whole thing's got that soulful, bluesy vibe and just grooves along beautifully.
