Mike Oldfield's first album to break away from his usual format of one lengthy piece across multiple sides, instead offering one extended track (Platinum Parts 1-4) on one side and several shorter, pop-influenced songs on the other. The fourth part of Platinum, nicknamed North Star, included a segment from Phillip Glass's album of the same name, transformed into progressive rock with the addition of bass, drums, and guitars. This clever cross-genre strategy attracted listeners to both artists, allowing Mike to gain minimalism credibility and Phillip to reach a more rock-focused audience. The recording quality is solid, with a dynamic and punchy sound. My version features "Into Wonderland" instead of "Sally.
Seeking the roots of House? Look no further, they're all here. Particularly in Platinum III and IV.
I've got a black-label version here with Sally, runout V-2141-A-3 with a D on the other side and V-2141-B-4 with an F opposite. Is this the same as the 'B1' listing? Have I struck it rich now?
This cassette sounds fantastic and is a great pick if you're after the original Album version with "Sally" included.
