Definitely an album divided into 3 distinct sections. An early recording from about 1970 captures McLaughlin, Corea, Vitous, Cobham & Coryell in their peak performance, and that's the main reason I have this album. It's a delight to listen to Chick employ the distorted electric piano tones he used with Miles. Then there are some solo guitar tracks by Larry Coryell. Lastly, a later, more refined session from eleventh house featuring brass and synths, while not terrible (1 track is awesome!), you can begin to notice how Fusion was starting to lose its direction. The impact of comparing this material with the prime Jazz-Rock of that enchanting year of 1970 is quite revealing
