⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely amazing pressing — personal, engrossing, and gorgeously hushedThis Verve Vault re-release of Percussion Bitter Sweet truly shines. My copy is perfectly flat and astonishingly quiet, with hardly any surface noise, ticks, or skips. The minimal noise lets the music flow in a way that feels purposeful and captivating.Sound-wise, this pressing focuses on depth and three-dimensionality over excessive width. The soundstage might not be the broadest in my collection, but it boasts a fantastic front-to-back presence that creates an intimate, almost live venue-like experience rather than a overly polished studio feel. The outcome feels authentic and immersive, as if you’re right there with the musicians. The brass instruments are a standout—rich, detailed, and vibrant, with just the perfect amount of edge and grit. Trumpet presence is superb without harshness. Cymbals sparkle wonderfully and fade into almost total silence thanks to the exceptionally quiet vinyl. Abbey Lincoln’s vocal parts are particularly striking, adding a playful, slightly dreamy early-’60s vibe that feels both of its time and timeless. In summary, this is a beautifully crafted reissue that values realism, tone, and emotional resonance over hi-fi flashiness. A deeply gratifying listen and a must-have pressing for anyone who admires Max Roach, early Impulse! records, or jazz that rewards attentive listening.Highly recommended.
Incredible. Simply incredible. Vinyl me please & thanx
I'm absolutely in love with this album, Max Roach is truly amazing on the drums and every other musician is fantastic! Abbey Lincoln's vocals are just incredible, every track still sounds so clear and fresh. This was one of my grandad's few records that survived after he passed away and it's still one of my most treasured items. Rest in peace, Derek Spencer.
It's challenging to provide accurate details about this release because of the disrespectful behavior of other contributors. The merging here is completely incorrect, and this release doesn't mention the laminated cover or the flipback feature. Additionally, my copy only has the date stamped in the runouts, not the different date on the back cover. I'll keep pushing to provide the correct information to all the collectors out there.
Wow, I gotta get more of those 60s Impulse records! This one just blows you away with sound. It's an absolute masterpiece of an album.
