I played this CD during a lengthy drive the other day. I owned the vinyl record when it first came out, and I purchased this Wounded Bird re-release specifically for my travels. Like other Wounded Bird reissues, I'm disappointed with their production quality. The audio levels are so low, I have to turn up the volume more than usual to hear it clearly. Carole King has some fantastic songs and a few odd ones on this album. "Lookin' Out For Number One" isn't a well-known hit or a track that people typically remember from King's discography, but it's an intense rock song with a scorching guitar solo. The title track and "Read Between The Lines" are also standout tunes. "Goat Annie" is a peculiar song that feels like a mix between King's "Smackwater Jack" and Tony Joe White's "Polk Salad Annie." It doesn't quite work. All in all, this is a solid album with some exceptional tracks.
