Though I no longer have this album as it was taken from me, I do have the box set version now. You'd think an album with such harsh tracks like “You’ve Passed” and “Someone Is Waiting” would be tough to transfer to vinyl, but the experts at Greg Lee and SAE did an amazing job with it. The vinyl version sounds fantastic, even with the more distorted parts. It's not as good as ITAOTS, but it's still a great pressing overall.
I recall diving into vinyl records around two years back, picked up an album called Aeroplane from some random pop culture shop in a mall, was super pumped to see what all the fuss was about. Spotted this place on the same day and figured, "yeah, I'll swing by here later." Got home, played that record I bought, and man, it was probably the most disappointing thing I'd ever heard. Super warped, full of crackles, and skipped all over the place. I was so pissed, returned it, and found On Avery Island was gone, still kick myself over that one. But two years later? This album's definitely the better one and sounds fucking flawless. Glad I waited it out.
If you're looking for the top-notch version of this timeless album, this is the one to grab! When you're buying the first edition, don't forget to check with the seller that the deadwax is an exact match, so you're getting the real deal. Also, this one's got a super shiny cover, which is a good sign. Be careful, though, 'cause around 75% of the ones you'll find are just re-releases, so always ask before you hit that buy button.
In 2011, they put out a CD version of this one. The red circle covers up more of the artwork. It came with a gatefold cardboard sleeve and a poster of the original cover. FIRECD53
