Created and led by Duke Jordan, this outstanding album showcases his brilliant compositional skills. The tracks and melodies are absolutely fantastic, a true gem for hard bop enthusiasts. The vinyl is incredibly quiet and the music flows seamlessly and naturally. The spatial details and the presence of the performers are truly exceptional. A 10 out of 10 release.
Don't mix this up with Art Blakey's recording. This is a great bop album showcasing a fantastic group, particularly Charlie Rouse on Sax and Duke on piano. They truly carry the majority of the performance. It's not overly wild but rather a strong session that shifts from fast-paced post bop feels to atmospheric modal vibes, as heard on "the feeling of love." It's a shame that all of the Charlie Parker albums have background noise but that's the trade-off, I suppose.
