I considered tweaking the notes to mention this, but then I wondered if everyone's copy is like this. On "Diamonds from Sierra Leone," the intro gets cut off about halfway through, and Jay's lines about selling coke are bleeped, along with his "(I'm Young, bitches!)" part. I reckon this is just a clean single edit, and it's not like I'm upset about it, I'm just wondering why it's like this. If anyone else has the same thing or knows the reason, feel free to chime in, thanks.
Is there a late track on this pressing? I've heard some versions have it as a hidden one.
In my opinion, this record sounds fantastic...it's loud and the bass really hits hard. I initially thought it was a bootleg too, just like someone else mentioned, but then I checked here (I got it from my local record store). Also, I'm not sure if this has been said before, but both records feel like they're 180g. They've got some serious weight to them. Can anyone else confirm that?
Perhaps it's just my particular copy, but this reissue doesn't quite hit the mark sound-wise. It comes across as a tad subdued, even a bit muddled at moments. Quite a letdown when you consider how rich the original production is. It's especially disheartening considering I picked this up after snagging a EU repress (Poland) of his first album, which blows this pressing out of the water in terms of vibrancy and clarity.
I'm not sure why people are so upset about this pressing. I cleaned it, got rid of the dust, and now it sounds great. There were a few pops while I was listening, but it's alright I suppose. I'm not a fan of the fact that the records don't come with antistatic sleeves. The weight is good, but my Dropout is much heavier and I prefer that. Still love this record and happy that I finally got one of these.
