Incredible! What amazing sound!!! And the packaging is superb. I also love all the details in the liner notes. Thanks, Strut Records!
Translated automatically,The music on this album is absolutely breathtaking! Each song feels like an out-of-this-world adventure. As for the original (foil) pressing - I've been after one for ages. I never imagined I'd dive so deep into record collecting that I'd genuinely think about buying one โฆ but here I am! To sum it up, it's everything I hoped for and so much more. In a nutshell, it's pure magic. It's so open and full of life. There's so much more richness than the reissues/streaming, it's like experiencing a whole new album. The sound is far more natural and raw - you can truly hear the entire band and the ambiance around them. I've owned the VMP Strut reissue for a few years now and have enjoyed it. But when you compare it, it's quite flat and two-dimensional. I wouldn't say it sounds bad, but it's a lot different. When you put them side by side, there's no contest - the original wins. If you're a huge fan of this record, you owe it to yourself to hear the original version. I can't figure out how many were made but it doesn't seem like many. I've never come across one in the wild. There's a fantastic write up/shoot out you can find online that dives deep into the differences between the original and the repress. I highly recommend checking it out if you're interested. 5 out of 5 cosmic STARS!
This copy has a bunch of crackling sounds and background noise, plus my record is a bit warped too.
This album is quite peculiar, to be honest. When jazz comes to mind, I picture top-notch musicians, but the drums here seem to be at a beginner to intermediate level, and the timing often feels off. I'm not sure if that's on purpose or not. It doesn't ruin the album for me, but I'm not keen on purchasing more of Sun Ra's work. The pressing starts with some noticeable crackles on side one, but it improves as it goes. All in all, I'd rate the album and this pressing around a 3.5 out of 5.
Awesome tunes, mastering's spot on but the pressing ain't top-tier, still got some faint hiss even after a good scrub.
