Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.
Right out of the packaging, my version of this album was making all sorts of noise. It appears to be bent. Has anyone else had trouble with their copy of this record?
what's the diffrence between this and this one: https://www.discogs.com/Sunn-O-Kannon/release/7828515 ?
For those who already have a few Sunn o))) records in their collection, Kannon might not initially seem to offer much that's fresh. You'll hear Attila Csihar's signature wails paired with Sunn o)))'s characteristic droning riffs, all delivered in the usual manner. The standout feature here is probably the bonus disc, where there's a broader range of Csihar's vocalizations and Sunn o)))'s doom-laden soundscapes. But if you take the time to read about the concept behind Kannon and give the album another listen, you might uncover more than what meets the ear at first. See for yourself if it's worth your time ... ;0)!
Echoing the sentiments about the Japanese 2CD version: If you're already a Sunn o))) collector, Kannon might not initially strike you as groundbreaking. Attila Csihar lends his signature wails to Sunn o)))'s signature drone in a familiar fashion. The standout feature here is arguably the bonus flexi-disc, offering more vocal and sonic diversity. You'll also notice field recordings woven into the backdrop of Aokigahara // Jukai. But dig deeperβread up on Kannon's themes and give the album another spin, and you might uncover layers you missed at first. See for yourself if it's worth your while... ;0)!
Whoops, I ended up with this version instead of the white one I was after during Black Friday. But hey, I'm not upset 'cause it's an amazing album - it's pretty much all instrumental and it's like it's caught between ambient and metal, with a metal style that's got classical music vibes. It reminds me a lot of Sleep's "Dopesmoker" or the early grind and fury of The Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray". Now I gotta check out "Soused" and "OO Void".
