Among the Acoustic Sounds series AAA editions (I've got around 10 of them), this one's got the least impressive sound, but I reckon that's down to the recording quality. It's got a good dynamic range and I haven't noticed any distortions, but it's missing that crystal-clear sound. Take, for instance, the Speaker’s Corner reissue of Nina Sings The Blues – that record's absolutely breathtaking in comparison.
Amazing album and vinyl pressing! Mastered by Ryan K Smith, one of the top rising stars in vinyl mastering, it's crisp and balanced. Sure, there's a bit of vocal distortion, not sure if it's due to the 33 rpm speed or the original recording, but Simone's voice shines bright and full of energy. Couldn't ask for more. Pressed beautifully at QRP. I think it's back in stock after being out for 3-4 years, so grab it while you can!
Nina is absolutely amazing! The quality of this pressing is superb! It's crisp, smooth, and perfect! The sound is incredibly dynamic, with a rich depth and so many details. It's got a full, warm, and expansive audio experience. Verve and AS really outdid themselves with this one, and I'm eagerly awaiting more releases from this series.
The album's sound quality is impressive overall, but I must concur with other reviewers who've mentioned the popping and cracking noises. They're quite audible, which is a bit of a letdown, especially during the quieter tracks. It's a real shame because this could've been an excellent repress otherwise. It appears that surface noise is a common issue here. I wouldn't take the risk.
Absolutely stunning mastering job. I've never experienced Ms. Simone sounding this incredible. The song selection is simply breathtaking, performed with such clarity. The orchestra truly enhances the whole experience. My album is perfect, not a single issue.
