Inaudible
Quite a few pops and ticks, particularly when Holy Diver starts.
This pressing is clean (no problems here) and I honestly like it way more than the remixed version that dropped the year after, but the mastering here is kinda harsh and tiring. The punch is alright, but the high end can be downright painful sometimes, though I guess that's better than having Dio sound all muddy. In an ideal world, they would've pressed the 2022 digital remaster. With some EQ adjustments or tweaking, it gets much better - I'd rather boost the bass or cut the high end than try to boost a muddy high end or smooth out muddy mids. For example, I cranked my bass tone control up by 2 notches and now it rivals my favorite digital versions.
This pressing offers a well-balanced sound. The highs are nicely managed, and it's on translucent vinyl. The US 1983 version has stronger lows and punch, but this Japanese mastering focuses more on clarity. I'd recommend having both.
Hardly a step up from the previous "atomic" Mercury. Both are amazing discs, but this one packs a punchier bass.
