The more I enjoy FRIENDS, the more I adore it, and I've always adored it. Perhaps it adores me too... stumbled upon a copy of this specific release at a second-hand store for an unbelievably great price. Over the moon! My word, this pressing sounds divine. So much clarity to the vocals, detail in the music, and richness to the sound. The backing vocals on "Little Bird" explode like blossoms on a tree...and there are countless moments throughout the short runtime of this small gem...just an incredibly excellent stereo image. It's such a serene, peaceful, beautiful little album, and stands alongside PET SOUNDS and LOVE YOU among my top Beach Boys records. My copy plays smooth and clear, with slight surface noise at the start of each side. Five stars and a smiley face.
The more I play FRIENDS, the more I love it, and I've always loved it. Maybe it loves me too...found a copy of this particular pressing at a glorified thrift shop for a ridiculously nice price. Happy happy joy joy! My goodness, this pressing sounds heavenly. So much presence to the vocals, detail to the instrumentation, and depth to the soundstage. The background vocals on "Little Bird" burst out like petals on a flower...and there are many moments throughout the brief playing time of this minor masterpiece...just a really excellent stereo image. It's such a tranquil, peaceful, lovely little record, and ranks alongside PET SOUNDS and LOVE YOU among my favorite Beach Boys albums. My copy plays nice and clean, with faint surface noise at the beginning of each side. Five stars and a happy face.
Amazing album, and the sound quality on this version is top-notch. The soundscape is huge and crystal clear, with a mix that's absolutely superb. Overall, it's an outstanding pressing.
I had high hopes for this one given its decent rating, but I must say I'm a tad disappointed. My copy of the Wild Honey twofer sounds way better in comparison. This pressing seems to have quite a bit of vocal distortion during the louder parts. Plus, the weird stereo decisions (like the bass and drums being mostly on the left and high frequencies on the right) are pretty distracting. All that said, it's still an incredible album, possibly my favorite by the Beatles.
I was really looking forward to this based on the solid ratings, but I must say I'm disappointed. My version of the Wild Honey twofer sounds way better. This pressing seems to have some serious vocal distortion during the louder parts. Plus, the weird stereo decisions (like all the bass and drums on the left, and high frequencies on the right) are pretty off-putting and distracting. Still, it's an incredible album, maybe my top pick from the Beatles.
