A phenomenal first album. Combining post-punk and jazz, it's shaping up to be a timeless masterpiece.
As the other review pointed out, there's a fair bit of surface noise on the right channel of this pressing. I picked up on it on both sides.
This album has been my top pick for the year up until now, but this particular copy is a bit of a letdown. The A Side isn't too bad, just a couple of tiny pops here and there, nothing too serious. However, the B Side is another story with a lot of whooshing surface noise that seems to get worse as it goes along. It's mostly in the right channel, while the left channel has its fair share of pops too. Towards the end of Opus, both speakers are crackling back and forth, which can really ruin the quieter parts. A bit of a shame about the pressing, but the songs still hold up even with the changes since their initial release.
My copy's pretty quiet, just a couple of pops here and there, barely enough to mention. The real headache, though, is how this record can't make up its mind about which channel to use. It flips between mono and stereo like it's playing a game, and it's especially bad on the second half of side B. Not ideal for an LP that's supposed to have a wide soundstage, but hey, you win some, you lose some. At least it looks nice in my collection, I guess...
There's a bit of background noise in this record, especially on Track X, but it doesn't bother me much. Apart from that, the record sounds fantastic.
