The album sounds fantastic. My copy doesn't have any crackles or pops, even during the soft parts.
The initial release (2005) outshines Plain Recordings' reissue in terms of audio quality. The 180g reissue is plagued with incessant pops, crackles, and unwanted surface noise that completely ruins tracks such as "Extraordinary Machine", "Parting Gift", and "Waltz (Better Than Fine)". To make matters worse, there's an unacceptable skipping issue right after the peak in "Not About Love"; I sent back my copy twice, and every replacement had the same defect and loud surface noise. Despite the potential high cost, if you're considering buying this album on 12" LP, I'd only suggest the original version. The first pressing offers stunning, clear sounds (with zero surface noise) that truly bring Fiona's piano chords and vocals to life––the sound quality, mastering & dynamic range are truly commendable.
Honestly, this VMP Fiona release is the most underwhelming one yet in terms of sound. The mastering seems to lack vitality. It comes across as empty and weak. The vinyl itself is quite clean and looks fantastic, but that's where the positives end.
Excellent pressing, great sound with no surface noises. Lovely green asparagus vinyls, but the packaging feels flimsy and basic. A gatefold would've been a nice touch or even an insert with lyrics or images.
This is fantastic. The dynamics are spot on and clearly defined. It's way better than I thought it'd be.
