Man, if you've got a mono cartridge hooked up to a killer system, this vinyl will seriously knock your socks off! It's just that amazing. I mean, what more can I say?!
This recording is incredibly energetic and vibrant. It's bursting with life and charm. Well executed. You can just imagine it getting everyone up on their feet.
Bought this for the nostalgia factor and I'm pleased. Some parts have a bit of a worn-out sound, even on my VG+ copy. It's a tad thin, and some vocals have a bit of fuzz, but overall, it's likely similar to the RCA pressings from the 50s. I'd say there's a raw and genuine vocal energy here, with the music and instruments really standing out, which is a bit muffled on the Simply Vinyl remaster from 2000.
This is a really great pressing. I just compared it to the original 1956 version and the differences are clear. The original has a brighter, thinner sound that's a bit compressed in the higher notes. This Simply Vinyl release aims for a more balanced and warmer sound, but in doing so, it lacks the energy and raw feel of the original. Note that this Simply Vinyl includes 6 extra songs not found on the original 1956 pressing.
Not only are the lyrics a bit altered, but there's also some guitar sections missing from the original version.
