Fantastic, high-end, incredibly dynamic pressing. Given how affordable this is, and how top-notch it sounds, preserving the album's heavenly production so well, it'd be a miss to not grab this.
Yet another disappointing, low-quality plastic item with a price tag that's anything but modest. It kicks off on a high note, with the velvet cover looking quite stylish. But then, oh dear, where do I even begin? 1) The vinyl is more grey than silver, flimsy (definitely not the heavyweight variety...), with a few discolored patches. Mine also has a darker streak extending from the center, which seems to be raised, as the stylus skips over it on both sides. Plus, there's a clearly visible, albeit inaudible, scuff on the first track. 2) Side A is a tad off-center, but I guess that's par for the course in the world of vinyl these days. 3) The noise floor is surprisingly low, all things considered, though there's the occasional crack and pop to contend with, along with the following issues. 4) The mastering is just dreadful, truly awful – this record is heavily compressed and LOUD, much louder than the digital version, with everything blaring at you. It has the dynamic range of a dubstep track and somehow still manages to sound flat and uninteresting. Compared to this, the Spotify version sounds like an audiophile SACD masterpiece. 5) The non-fills on side A are missing, and the intro to 'Beyond Love' is completely ruined, with the guitar sounding like an emergency siren. 6) No anti-static sleeve included. The good news: it doesn't skip, and people will go 'OOOOO DEPRESSION CHERRY I LOVE IT <3' when they see it on your shelf. Your girlfriend won't let you return this as long as it makes some noise, so you might as well save your time and do your homework before buying another overpriced piece of junk for banana people with Crosleys.
I'm absolutely in love with this album, it sounds amazing! The velvet sleeve is such a unique touch, but remember to wipe down your record before playing and use an outer sleeve because tiny bits of the velvet can come off and scatter everywhere.
The sound quality of this record is fantastic. Barely any hiss or crackle. Newbury got it to me fast, and it came in mint condition. I'd definitely suggest it if you're a fan of this album.
Quite alright, but the later ones (Bloom and 7) are way way improved. The packaging is real nice and no crackles here.
