Absolutely fantastic sound and impact from the first mono press green label
Serge Gainsbourg passed away on March 2, 1991, and I found his music in 1995. "Melody Nelson" is undoubtedly a masterpiece, but my all-time favorite from him is "Confidentiel." With just an electric guitar and double bass backing him, this album rocks in a way that brings to mind Elvis's Sun Records sessions. It's not rockabilly, but the jazz is deeply felt, and Serge's genius is evident throughout. His songwriting is at its strongest in this collection. My top pick from this album is "Scenic Railway." It's like Bertolt Brecht's iciness meeting Robert Bresson's attention to detail. Other classics await the listener. Absolutely superb album.
