This remaster has a pleasant sound, it's smooth with great dynamics and imaging. The audio is more laid-back compared to the MoFi Dire Straits remasters. I'm a fan of both styles, but they're distinct, as I find the Mofi version a tad warmer.
My version has a bit of a hum, but I reckon that's just from it being well-loved over the years. I'm still giving it a 5-star rating because it's an incredible album. Easily in my top 10 of all time, and this particular copy sounds amazing.
This CD was among the first I ever listened to, and it truly mesmerized me. Even with all the negative feedback it's received over time, it's always sounded remarkably good to me. And when I stack up all the versions and remasters, the one that takes the top spot on my shelf is this original, as it captures the sound the artists and producers intended for us to hear way back in '85. Perhaps in another hundred years, someone will put out a better version, but for ears in the 22nd century. As for me, nothing beats the 1985 edition.
I was this age when I noticed my spotless clean copy I purchased in '85…has an off-center b side. DM-3 for the press stamp, I’m pretty certain it’s variant 3. You can hear the difference on the inner tracks. Has anyone else noticed this? I have a remastered CD I usually listen to, so this copy has barely been used. I played it last night to check how it was holding up. And saw the needle sway back and forth on B.
I gotta say, this is absolutely phenomenal, way above and beyond what I ever imagined or hoped for. Honestly, it's the most breathtaking rendition of this masterpiece I've ever come across.
