I agree with IzzeLupin, their review is spot on - it's spot on. One of the finest Sundazed reissues I've got.
Highly recommend this great pressing, sounds awesome from p-vine!
It seems we've struck gold here. This 2014 AAA pressing suggests that the master tapes for this recording survived the Universal warehouse fire of 2008, unlike many other priceless Chess Records. If you're a Bo Diddley fan and haven't yet added any of his vinyl to your collection, this is an excellent starting point. Sundazed is an amazing reissue label that, as far as I know, specializes in analog remasters (though their digital work is also top-notch these days). Kevin Gray's mastering on this album is outstanding; Diddley's vocals are crisp and clear, and the instruments shine just as brightly. It's a bona fide classic, and if it were released by MoFi or Analogue Productions, you'd likely pay twice as much for the same sound quality on this 33 rpm record.
If the very essence of rock and roll isn't etched into these tracks, then I'm at a loss. Perhaps Elvis' first record was the real game-changer, but if millions of young white American girls could have been swept off their feet by a black artist in the 1950s, this album would've been the one to revolutionize everything. Thankfully for everyone, a few young white British lads fell head over heels for Bo Diddley instead, copied his style as much as they could, and then showed America just a few years later what their own music was truly about.
