Just a heads up, Vangelis wasn't involved at all in this version, it's merely another copy of his original piece.
Top-notch and most thorough version of the Blade Runner soundtrack. Audio quality is pristine and fantastic. Disk one is off center and the hole is too tiny.
FINALLY, THE PERFECT VERSION! How many times have I bought Blade Runner soundtracks that were just plain terrible? There's that well-known 'New American Orchestra' version that's clearly ORCHESTRAL, nothing like the original, and some Brazilian bootleg that's mostly just dreamy sax and soft piano bits from the film. Both were such letdowns. Save your money and avoid them. Now, let's talk about this 2XLP by Edgar Rothermich. I was SUPER doubtful about a re-recorded version. How could anyone possibly recreate Blade Runner's music? Well, Edgar Rothermich has done it PERFECTLY. I've got a really critical ear, and I can't hear ANY difference from the original movie tracks. NOT A SINGLE ONE! I now think this is the most accurate and definitive Blade Runner soundtrack out there. Yes, it has one sax and piano piece, but it's mostly ALL the epic synth tracks any fan would want. Every sound, note, and detail have been reproduced perfectly with NO noticeable difference. This must've been a huge effort, but I'm so glad it was done. The sound quality is amazing. Deep, rich lows and clear, sharp highs. Excellent throughout. Like others mentioned, the spindle hole on the first LP is small/tight. It wouldn't fit on my spindle, so I took a risk and used a pen-sized X-acto knife to gently widen it. Worked like a charm. No issues after that. The spindle holes on my copy are perfectly centered. No off-center problems. Limited to 500 copies. Hope they press more. Fans of the BR soundtrack NEED this.
I genuinely can't fathom why someone would waste their time and effort on this instead of creating something unique.
The packaging could use some improvement, maybe a gatefold sleeve would be nice. Apart from that, it's a awesome Blade Runner cover. The quality of the pressing is top-notch, 9 out of 10. There were a few clicks initially, but they disappeared after a couple of wet cleanings. The strangest thing is record one. The center hole is a bit too small, and the record is cut off-center, but the matrix was pressed correctly, so there won't be any issues with playback. As for the sound, I can't really complain. It's loud and clear with incredibly deep bass in some parts. It's very impressive, if I do say so myself. The coolest thing about this release is that they pressed it on two records. That's the way to do it, unlike the original soundtrack which was pressed on one (what a shame). The idea to reconstruct this Vangelis masterpiece is brilliant. Maybe not everyone will approve, but I think it was a bold attempt by Edgar Rothermich, and he nailed it. Very cool work by Notefornote Music on this release! Thumbs up!
