Impex did an amazing job. The album's sound quality is top-notch, and the tunes are enjoyable, easy to remember, and perfect for those who aren't into jazz or even wives.
Wow, what a pleasant shock! This is absolutely amazing! The vinyl is smooth and quiet. The tunes are so incredible! Carnell Jones is killing it! A must-own
This record showcases all the hallmarks of the initial/first batch, yet it's pressed on see-through yellow vinyl.
2023's Impex hidden gem, truly exceptional. Yet another brilliant release. Priced just right, it's a steal. Top-notch in music, audio, and pressing quality—unlike that Getz Gilberto (sound and quality-wise). Strongly recommend!
Music: 5/5 stars. Perhaps overlook that this is the soundtrack to a 1960 surfing documentary. The album shines on its own as a truly amazing jazz piece. I'd characterize the tunes as a bridge between bebop and hardbop—if you're familiar with the Carmel Jones Tone Poet, it's akin to that. Carmel lends his talents here, along with Dave Peacock (who also contributed to the Carmel Jones TP) and Shelly Manne. The entire band is phenomenal, both collectively and as individuals. Most of these musicians aren't exactly famous, but their playing is undeniably top-tier. And the album's replay value is off the charts. I'd recommend giving it a listen on your preferred streaming platform to see if it resonates with you. I'm willing to bet you'll adore it. SQ & pressing: 5/5 stars. This is a fully analog creation, mastered by Kevin Gray. It's a $40 1x33rpm that rivals a $60 2x45 in sound quality. It boasts a delightful warm analog tone, with clarity and soundstage that are simply breathtaking. The mix & EQ (from the original master tape) are nearly flawless. I couldn't ask for better sound quality. The vinyl is eerily quiet, perfectly flat, making it an ideal record to showcase your system or to simply immerse yourself in the music. "You're in the room" might be a bit of a cliché when describing audiophile records, but it genuinely fits here. The best $40 I've spent in ages.
